Punk said he would be a better champion than Cena could ever hope to be, and that at Backlash, he's going to remain champion and knock Cena to the back of the line. Rey Mysterio defeated Cody Rhodes by countout in 0:08:52.
Rating: * * 3/4

These two men have already qualified for the United States Championship fatal Fourway at Backlash in two weeks, and tonight Rey Mysterio continued his amazing roll of momentum. But it wasn't without controversy. Once again, Goldust made his way to ringside, cheering his younger brother on. Unfortunately, Cody took exception and made his way to the outside to send his brother to the back, in the process getting himself counted out. Goldust looked sheepish and tried to apologize for once again costing his brother the match, but Cody wouldn't hear any of it and stormed back to the locker room.

Backstage, "The Rated R Superstar" Edge cut a promo on his nemesis and Backlash opponent Chris Jericho. He said that he couldn't wait to have Jericho locked in a cage with himself in two weeks, and promised to end this rivalry and take years off Jericho's life after the hell he's going to put him through. John Cena and Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard and JTG) when Punk pinned JTG with the
GTS in 0:11:01.
Rating: * * 3/4

Score one for CM Punk and his so-called straight edge society, as he was able to steal away during a melee late in the match to catch JTG with the GTS and score the pinfall. Throughout the match, it seemed that Punk would do anything to avoid facing Cena one-on-one, continuing on his course that people have to pay to see the rematch. After the bout, Nigel McGuinness rushed the ring and attacked Cena and Cryme Tyme, but it wasn't long before The Undertaker returned and joined the fray. Taker cleaned house on The Invasion, while world champion CM Punk bailed immediately. The Undertaker helped the fallen John Cena and Cryme Tyme and stood tall as the show came to a close.

Montel Vontavious Porter pinned Edge with the Playmaker in 0:09:23.
Rating: * * 1/2

Edge was obviously still nursing his injured leg from the attack by Chris Jericho this past Monday on Raw, and the ruthless Mr. 305 took full advantage of that in defeating the Rated R Superstar in this week's main event. Mr. Raw Deal has perhaps his biggest victory to date, but more important, we've seen just how extensive the damage to that leg of Edge may be. How will that bode for him in just over a week at Backlash as he faces Chris Jericho in a steel cage?

April 19, 2010 — WWE Monday Night Raw

John Cena opened up Raw tonight to hype his world title match against CM Punk this Sunday at Backlash. Cena was interrupted by Triple H, who informed him that even though they'd be teaming together against their Backlash opponents later tonight, he has more important things to discuss with the WWE Universe. Namely, his Loser Leaves WWE bout with Gregory Shane Helms this Sunday. This brought out Helms, who said he's made a name for himself ousting Superstars from the WWE, and he'll do it once again at Backlash. Suddenly, CM Punk snuck up from behind and leveled John Cena with the world championship belt! Triple H grabbed after Punk, but Punk left the ring and high-tailed it up the ramp, holding his title high in mock victory.

Backstage, Mr. Kennedy cut a promo on returning to active competition tonight. He promised to just give Sheamus a taste of the pain he's going to suffer this Sunday at Backlash. His promo was interrupted by the "Rated R Superstar" Edge. The tension in the room was palpable, given their long history. But Edge said he was willing to put their differences aside for tonight to team up against their Backlash opponents. Kennedy seemed to reluctantly agree, but the two stared each other down as we went back to the ring.

The Invasion (Nigel McGuinness, Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov) defeated
The Fortunate Sons (Joe Hennig and Ray Gordy) and The Undertaker when
N. McGuinness pinned J. Hennig after a roll up in 0:11:12.
Rating: * * 3/4

Despite the WWE Universe wanting to see The Undertaker finally get his hands on Nigel McGuinness, it wasn't to be tonight as the Television champion avoided the Dead Man and let Santino and Kozlov take the brunt of the punishment. The Fortunate Sons were obviously in awe of The Undertaker, but the world tag team champions looked to send a message to their opponents this Sunday and gain the upper hand going into their title match. Unfortunately, McGuinness walked away with the upper hand, rolling up Hennig during a melee and picking up the win for his Invasion.

Backstage, world champion CM Punk cut a promo on his actions earlier tonight. The Straight Edge Messiah said that Cena doesn't deserve the decency of a face-to-face confrontation and as for Triple H, Punk said he's not even in the world champion's stratosphere. And tonight, just like this Sunday, he's going to prove once again that straight edge means "I'm better than you".

In the ring, Chris Jericho cut a scathing promo on Edge, promising to not only end this feud between the two superstars, but to close the career of the Rated R Superstar. He said the attack on Edge's leg last week is going to be the straw that breaks his back. Sunday, inside the steel cage, Chris Jericho remains the alpha dog in the WWE.

Cody Rhodes pinned Kofi Kingston with the Cross Rhodes in 0:06:24.
Rating: * * * 1/2

He said that since winning the Raw Deal match, he doesn't have to worry about when his next match is, because he has an automatic world title shot that he can take whenever and wherever he chooses. And this Sunday, he'll be ringside doing commentary all night, because he's got all the time in the world, and he wants to see his competition up close.

Backstage, Cody was interviewed about his victory over Kofi Kingston, but before he could start about becoming the United States champion this Sunday, he was interrupted by Goldust! Edge and Mr. Kennedy defeated Sheamus and Chris Jericho when Edge pinned Jericho
with the Spear in 0:08:08.
Rating: * * 1/4

Mr. Kennedy looked impressive in his return to action tonight, but as he and Sheamus brawled, it was the Rated R Superstar who stole the spotlight and put the fear of the Spear into Chris Jericho's mind leading to this Sunday at Backlash. After the pinfall, however, Sheamus dispatched Mr. Kennedy with a vicious bicycle kick and entered the ring, leveling Edge with the kick as well! Surprisingly, the Celtic Warrior was the man standing tall at the end of the bout!

Afterward, a video package rolled hyping this Sunday's Backlash card. Skillet's song, "Monster" was used to highlight the feud between world champion CM Punk and John Cena, along with the bouts coming between Edge and Chris Jericho, GSH and Triple H, and The Undertaker and Television champion Nigel McGuinness.

John Cena and Triple H defeated CM Punk and Gregory Shane Helms when Triple H
pinned Helms with the Pedigree in 0:12:20.
Rating: * * * 3/4

This would be the final match for either Triple H or Gregory Shane Helms tonight, as one of them will be exiled from WWE after their bout this Sunday night. And heading into Backlash, Triple H has the decided upper hand after finally pinning his nemesis with the Pedigree tonight. This was anything but a wrestling match, as the bad blood between these four men has reached a boiling point. The pinfall occurred with Cena and Punk brawling outside the ring and up to the backstage area! Triple H stood triumphant over Helms to end the show… but will this be Helms's last stand in the WWE? Or will he add another name to his list of exiled wrestlers?

April 22, 2010 — WWE Superstars

Rating: * 1/4

The Alpha Male has returned and he looks to be as dominant as he's ever been, running through a local competitor in his return match tonight, pinning the unfortunate victim with the Pounce. Cor Von took the mic afterward and told the audience that he'd just claimed another victim for his pride, and soon the entire WWE Universe will fall under the reign of the Alpha Male.

Later, Television champion Nigel McGuinness cut a promo inside the ring, promising The Undertaker that at Backlash, the time for smoke and mirrors would be over. Destiny waits for no man, and Nigel said he would claim his own destiny this Sunday.

Zack Ryder pinned Goldust with the Zack Attack in 0:10:57.
Rating: * * * 1/2

Zack Ryder appears to be going strong in his singles career since his Entourage partner Ezekiel Jackson was released for a Wellness Policy violation, picking up a win against Goldust tonight after the Zack Attack. Goldust, on the other hand, has not had such luck since returning to a WWE ring. He left frustrated as Zack Ryder confidently celebrated his victory in the ring.

The Invasion (Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov) when Gordy pinned V. Kozlov
after a flying forearm in 0:08:32.
Rating: * *
(The Fortunate Sons retained the World Tag Team Titles.)

The Fortunate Sons proved tonight that they are not simply a flash in the pan, defending their championship successfully and putting away the former champions for good! The Invasion were seen arguing after the match ended. No word on whether this developed into anything backstage after the bout, but tempers and frustration are sure to run high after an unsuccessful championship bout.

Mr. Kennedy defeated Sheamus by disqualification in 0:09:12.
Rating: * *

In Mr. Kennedy's return to pay-per-view action, he and Sheamus engaged in an all out war tonight. The referee allowed a certain degree of latitude for this rivalry, but when Sheamus refused to relinquish a chokehold, he was left with no choice but to call for a disqualification and award the bout to Mr. Kennedy! Sheamus didn't relent, however, waiting for Kennedy to return to his feet and leveling the GM with a brutal bicycle kick! Mr. Kennedy may have won the match, but the Celtic Warrior came out looking as strong as ever.

And once again, Rey Mysterio has defied the odds by defeating three other competitors and reclaiming the US championship after pinning Kofi Kingston with the Springboard Splash! But in the end, it was Mysterio who had his arm raised and celebrated with the winner's share and the United States championship!

The Undertaker pinned Nigel McGuinness with the Tombstone in 0:10:35.
Rating: * * * * 1/4

The Television champion may have been confident, he may have looked impressive throughout the match, he may have even been undaunted and unintimidated… but in the end, the Dead Man is the Biggest Dog in the Yard for a reason and he proved it once again tonight, defeating the upstart Brit with the Tombstone. McGuinness may keep the gold, but he certainly learned a valuable lesson about the pecking order on the Raw roster.

Gregory Shane Helms pinned Triple H with the Shining Wizard in 0:18:21.
Rating: * * * 3/4

In the shock of the evening, Gregory Shane Helms has succeeded in banishing his nemesis Triple H from the WWE! The 13-time world champion simply couldn't put the Wrestling Messiah away despite hitting him with a Pedigree mid-match! Rating: * * * * 1/4

In the bloody, brutal finale to the running feud between these two superstars, Jericho was able to put run away from his nemesis once again, this time escaping the confines of the cage and winning their bout. After the match, however, MVP (providing color commentary for the action all night) stood and mocked applause for Edge as he left the cage. Edge didn't take this laying down, and after pouring his heart into this match, leveled MVP with a Spear! Mr. 305 was left coughing and clutching his ribs as Edge went backstage, defeated.

But Punk wasn't without some seemingly random help, as he garnered an assist from recently released superstar Ezekiel Jackson! Ezekiel leaped into the ring area while the referee was distracted and hit Cena with the Book of Ezekiel on the concrete floor! He rolled Cena back into the ring and allowed Punk to pick up the pieces and retain the championship. After the bout, Punk and Ezekiel signaled to somebody backstage and suddenly the steel cage started to lower! Punk and Ezekiel continued their brutal assault on Cena with the cage around them and security unable to help! The pay-per-view ended with Cena unconscious and broken in the ring, while Punk and Ezekiel celebrated as the cage finally started to lift…

April 26, 2010 — WWE Monday Night Raw

The show opened with Chris Jericho making his way out to the ring and cutting a promo on his victory last night, saying he had finally dispatched Edge and was on to bigger and better things. He said that after vanquishing Nigel McGuinness convincingly last night, it's time for him to reclaim his championship. As these two continued to argue, Gregory Shane Helms came out and said that he'd be named top contender by the end of the night after he banished Triple H from the WWE last night! Jericho and Taker scoffed at GSH, until Helms smacked Taker across the face! Helms high-tailed it out of the ring, but Jericho snuck up behind Taker and nailed him with a Codebreaker! Taker laid unconscious as Jericho walked, triumphantly, out of the ring. Later on we would find out that The Undertaker would face Chris Jericho in a Number One Contenders match for the world title in our main event tonight!

Cody Rhodes pinned Nigel McGuinness with the Cross Rhodes in 0:08:45.
Rating: * * *
(Cody Rhodes won the WWE Television Title.)

After losing decisively to The Undertaker last night, Nigel McGuinness was scheduled to defend his Television championship tonight against Cody Rhodes and despite his promises to become the longest reigning Television champion ever, Rhodes pulled off the victory thanks to some miscommunication from The Invasion! Cody celebrated his first singles championship in WWE with the fans while Nigel went ballistic in the ring, blaming everything on Santino and Kozlov! This has not been a good 48 hours for The Invasion…

Backstage, MVP cut a promo on Edge. He said that last night, Edge crossed a line he never should have been messing with when he Speared Mr. 305 after losing to Chris Jericho. MVP said he was minding his own business, biding his time to cash in his championship opportunity against the world champion, but now his focus is clearly on Edge. And when the time comes, he's going to show Edge why MVP is the highest paid athlete in the WWE.

Kofi Kingston and Delirious defeated Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard and JTG) when
Delirious made Shad submit to the Cobra Stretch in 0:08:56.
Rating: * * 1/2

With the world tag team champions The Fortunate Sons sitting at ringside to scout the tag division, Kofi and Delirious looked extremely impressive tonight in defeating Cryme Tyme. Surprisingly, few fans remember that Kingston and Delirious are former tag team champions. Their reign may have only lasted a few minutes, but these two reminded the WWE Universe (and perhaps the current tag champions) that they were indeed a formidable duo and perhaps can be again. On the reverse side, Cryme Tyme has seem to have fallen on some hard times of late. They couldn't get back on the winning track tonight, unfortunately, as Delirious made Shad tap to the Cobra Stretch.

In the ring, world champion CM Punk made his way out with Ezekiel Jackson, who just last night aided him in defeating and brutally beating John Cena. Punk said that not long ago, Ezekiel was suspended and subsequently fired from WWE for Wellness Policy violations. But he said he was sucked into a life of debauchery and lewdness by a lowlife named The Brian Kendrick. But CM Punk saved Jackson and he has accepted Straight Edge into his life. He and Jackson dominated John Cena last night, injuring him and likely knocking him out of competition for good. And now, as his Straight Edge Society takes shape, Punk said the world will know that Straight Edge means "we're better than you".
